Don't Turn Off the Alarm Without Addressing the Problem

Updated: Oct 7

There’s a reason you are in pain. Pain is the communication between the brain and the mind that tells us something is wrong, not functioning properly, or just irritated. Pain is the signal that something needs our attention and needs it now.

Because we cannot see what is going on in our body and our muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. can’t talk, pain is important. Just like a smoke detector, pain tells us there is a fire somewhere in our musculoskeletal system and that fire should not be ignored.

However, when we mask our pain with NSAIDs, pain killers, opioids, etc. we are turning off that signal without dealing with the cause. If there is a fire and we take the batteries out of the smoke detector, you still have a fire. The same thing is true within the body.

So next time you are dealing with pain, don’t ignore it and don’t mask it. Find the root cause and put out the fire itself. Call us today at (615)-900-5187 and we’ll be happy to help.
